Francesca Gencarella is a 4th year Mechanical Engineering major with minors in Physics and Energy Systems. She is currently a mechanical lead on the Georgia Tech Solar Home team, working to create affordable, net-zero energy and net-zero water homes to build in the Atlanta community. She strives to find ways for sustainable systems to be implemented in the house while maintaining, or even reducing, the overall price of the home. She and her team are also working to design new technologies that will reduce both the energy bill and the carbon footprint of the home. She has also founded the sustainability committee for her sorority, which works to make changes in the sorority house and meal systems to reduce waste. She hopes to further this movement into the rest of campus greek-life and introduce composting and food donations on a larger scale. She sees many opportunities for Atlanta and Georgia Tech to become much more sustainable and hopes to help initiate relative projects during her time here.
