Mike Giannetto is a Ph.D. student in environmental engineering at Yale University. He works in Professor Jordan Peccia’s Environmental Biotechnology Lab, where he is researching the growth of algae for biofuel production. More specifically, he is interested in the effects of microbial contamination on algal growth reactors. Mike graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. in environmental engineering in 2012. At Northwestern, he worked in Professor Jean-Francois Gaillard’s Environmental Geochemical Lab, studying the fate and transport of heavy metals in lake systems. He was also co-president of Students for Ecological and Environmental Development (SEED), a student group that aimed to make campus more sustainable and environmentally conscious.
