Mustafa Safdar

Mustafa Safdar is a senior analyst on the business development and M&A team at NRG Renew where he focuses on the origination, evaluation and acquisition of distributed generation solar projects and solar companies in the United States. He has successfully executed a number of projects including NRG’s acquisition of one of the largest community solar portfolios in the nation. Previously, he worked as an investment banking analyst in Citi’s Global Power & Alternative Energy group where he advised clients on mergers, acquisitions, IPOs and capital raises. He worked on a range of transactions, including the acquisition of a portfolio of utility-scale wind projects, the sale of a utility-scale solar thermal project and CenterPoint Energy’s $10 billion merger with Enogex.
Mustafa graduated from Brown University in 2012 with an Sc.B. in Applied Mathematics-Economics. While at Brown, he served as editor-in-chief of the Brown Journal of World Affairs, an international affairs journal that publishes articles by and interviews with world-renowned foreign affairs experts, including Kyoto Protocol carbon market architect Graciela Chichilnisky, former U.S. Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt and former U.S. Under Secretary of State R. Nicholas Burns. He also served on the leadership team of the Capital Good Fund—a nationally recognized microfinance institution that tackles poverty through small loans, financial coaching and free tax preparation.
