Paige Nygaard is an undergraduate student at College of the Atlantic. She is majoring in Human Ecology, with a focus in renewable energy, sustainable business, international climate politics and design. Paige was self-taught through high school. During this time she lived in Chicago, studied at an art school there, Marwen, and attended Conserve School, an environmental semester school in northern Wisconsin. At College of the Atlantic, she took part in the CIERA project, to help solve Maine islands’ energy issues. During this project she took classes at The Energy Academy on Samsø Island in Denmark. After, along with another student, Paige started a project to help improve energy issues in her college town, called MDI Insulation and Efficiency. Paige recently traveled to France to study politics and law of food and water. She is a member of her school’s Campus Committee for Sustainability, Zero-Waste Club, and Earth in Brackets. Last year, she started the school’s Sustainable Investment Club. Paige is active in international climate politics. She attended the Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany in June. She will continue to attend this year’s climate negotiations and work with various environmental groups domestically and internationally. In her free time she cooks, does yoga, hikes, writes, and makes pottery.
